Marist Moments: Where is my energy?
Life’s journey seeks meaning, passion, a sense of purpose. When we live from this deeper source of energy we feel alive and not so thrown around by the daily ups and downs of life. Spirituality is the sense of a deeper story and purpose at work in our lives; we are connected with each other and with God. Some people are attracted to a marist spirituality - a way of living like Mary did. Her life gives us energy.
A popular Marist Book called A Certain Way offers some thoughtful ideas on the Marist Way of looking at and living life.
A Life Force
The Marist project was described as “a tree of many branches”: priests, brothers, sisters and lay people, all drawing sap from the same root. That root is Mary — understood not as a distant patron but as a living, animating presence, the life force within the whole body.
In the Gospels she is the woman, mother and disciple who is always “there.” Marists speak of her as “most hidden, yet most present.” Her influence works quietly from inside, the way roots work unseen beneath a flourishing tree. To live the Marist charism is to let that interior life shape us before any outward activity begins.

What is quietly nourishing my inner life right now, and what is draining it?
