On the margins

At home with the ONE.

When the first Marists pledged themselves, they did not have a detailed plan. They simply promised to give themselves “in every way” to help people “in any part of the world.” From the beginning Marists have preferred to work where others are reluctant to go: on the fringe, at the margins, and even beyond them.

The Marist charism carries “a taste for sinners” and a desire to be instruments of God’s mercy, offering a compassion that runs to the limits. Mission, in this vision, is not about claiming the centre. It is about feeling the pulse of the age and being willing to leave the ninety-nine for the one.
